Staff of St. Paul's

I enjoy working at St. Paul’s where I’m the Art Instructor at the School and
also the Director of the REAL Kids Childcare Center. I have had the privilege of working at St. Paul’s for ten years. I enjoy teaching, encouraging children and sharing the love of Christ with them. I grew up in Augusta KS. in a large and loving family. I earned my bachelor’s degree from WSU where I majored in

Graphic Design and Art. After college I married John and moved to Cheney. I worked as a designer and illustrator for ten years in Wichita before starting a family. While my children were young I enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom for my daughter Jessica and my son Jared. My husband John works for the Garden Plain Coop. I have been a member of St. Paul’s for 23 years. Over the course of those years I have liked the challenge of designing several stage sets for VBS as well as our school musicals. I also enjoy making music videos, especially for my end of summer dinner theater that I like to present for my REAL Kid’s families. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends and learning new art techniques.

I work part-time at St. Paul’s Lutheran School as a teacher’s aide in the kindergarten/first grade classroom. I am also a temporary dental hygienist for several offices in Wichita and Hutchinson. My husband Gregg is a mechanical engineer at Cessna. We have three sons: Ian, Garrett and Conner. Our family belongs to Cheney United Methodist church. I have a 27 year old quarter horse named Wiley that is a delight to ride. Our indoor pet (Brick) is a funny-looking little dog that we got from the humane society last year, and we all adore him. Gregg and the three boys are big sports fans. (Go K-State!) And participate themselves in several sports, mostly golf, football and basketball. We also enjoy a good movie and pizza at home most Saturday nights.

I was raised in a Christian home in Sterling, KS.  After going to Hutchinson Junior College, I finished up my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement in 2001 at Emporia State University.  It is there that I met my now husband Jerry.
I was excited to start my teaching career at a small Christian school, St. Paul's in  Haven, KS.  For 5 yrs I taught everything from Kdg to 3rd grade. After they closed their doors, I began teaching preschool at Trinity Treasures in Hutchinson.
I began looking for a place that I would feel comfortable sending my son to school, most importantly wanting a small Christian environment like that of what I experienced while teaching in Haven.  I started teaching at St. Paul's in Cheney in the fall of 2008.  I had found the school for my children; God has a plan!  I taught upper elementary for two years.
In the fall of 2010, I became the director and teacher at St. Paul's In His Hands Preschool and Child Care.  I certainly enjoy my time back with the little ones.  I feel as if I am in the right place, teaching and loving the youngest in God's family.  It is a joy to be able to show God's love to each one of them everyday while guiding their growth and preparing them for Kindergarten.

Arlene has served as lower grade teacher since the fall of 1990. "I graduated from Fort Hays State University with a double major in Special Education and Elementary Education. Although I did not have any definite plans for my life at that time, God did! 'I know the plans I have for you, declared the Lord, plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.' Jeremiah 29:11

"I taught in Colorado in a pre-school classroom for under-privileged children; 58 three and four year olds of whom 30% spoke only Spanish. What an eye opening experience that was! We then moved to Kingman, KS where I taught a class of severely handicapped children. I truly enjoyed my time teaching some of God's special children. After that, I taught in Norwich, KS in an inter-related Resource Center. God then led me to St. Paul's Lutheran School. It was like coming home again. I attended St. Paul's during my grade school years and now God was granting me the privilege to share His Word with students everyday! God has also blessed me with a wonderful husband, Steve, and our two children. I enjoy serving the Lord as a teacher at St. Paul's. I believe this is His plan for me."

"Love the Lord and follow His plan for your lives. Cling to Him and serve Him enthusiastically." Joshua 22:5

"I attended a two room Lutheran school in Nebraska and Michigan for eight years. I graduated from high school in Goderich, Ontario in 1972. After a year at Concordia, Ann Arbor, MI, I transferred to Concordia, Seward, NE where I graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor's degree in education. My call was to teach grades 1-4 here at St. Paul's. I taught until 1986 when my first child was born; since 1990 I have returned to teach here on a part-time basis and now to a more full-time schedule."

"I feel very fortunate to have been blessed with a strong Christian education. As a parent and a teacher, I feel it is the greatest gift we can give our children. While technology and the world change around us, we know that God's love never changes. I pray that I am able to help children build a strong foundation of faith in their Savior and find joy in serving Him. I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him among His people here at St. Paul's."
